WeChat has unveiled a palm scanning technology to bolster Tencent's initiative for smart meal assistance for the elderly. As of May 2025, this innovative service has been successfully integrated into almost 100 smart senior restaurants across 21 cities in six provinces and municipalities. With this system, seniors need only to register their palm information once, allowing for instant identity verification during mealtimes without the hassle of carrying documents or smartphones. Importantly, the palm scanning technology is solely dedicated to identity authentication and is not tied to any payment processes. This fusion of palm print and palm vein recognition technology significantly enhances the dining experience for the elderly, making it more convenient and seamless.
