Mr. Christopher Hui, Hong Kong's Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, disclosed during his visit to Canada that local firms with insurance and banking ties to Asia exhibited significant interest in shifting their registration to Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Legislative Council has approved the pertinent bill allowing foreign companies to relocate their registration to Hong Kong, and the revised ordinance has officially commenced. On the inaugural day of the ordinance's implementation, the Companies Registry logged 9,000 downloads of related documents and received over 100 inquiries, underscoring the substantial market interest. Mr. Hui emphasized that Hong Kong, within the framework of 'One Country, Two Systems', possesses unique advantages, including a robust corporate governance foundation and extensive resource networks that are appealing to overseas companies. Relocating to Hong Kong will not only bolster demand for legal, accounting, and other professional services but also introduce fresh opportunities for the city. The SAR government encourages enterprises to leverage the relocation mechanism and anticipates growing interest from more companies in the future.
