On the morning of June 6, 2025, Japan's ispace company's moon lander "Hakuto-R" lost contact during its attempt to land on the Mare Frigoris plain of the moon. This loss of communication is suspected to be the result of a hard landing, potentially caused by insufficient deceleration. The lander, which was launched on January 15, took a fuel-saving detour before entering lunar orbit on May 6. The initial objective was to deploy the small rover "Tenacious" and various scientific instruments. Notably, this incident marks the second failed moon landing mission for ispace, following a similar setback in April 2023.
