Google's stringent new app quality standards and reinforced review process have resulted in a substantial decrease of 47% in the number of apps available on Google Play, down from 3.4 million at the start of 2024 to 1.8 million today. Conversely, the Apple App Store witnessed a 2.5% increase in app count over the same period. Google's initiatives are focused on weeding out low-quality and non-functional apps, employing stricter developer verification procedures and AI-driven threat detection systems. In 2024 alone, Google prevented the listing of 2.36 million non-compliant apps and banned 158,000 accounts. Despite these measures, the Google Play market continues to thrive, with a 7.1% year-on-year growth in newly released apps during the first four months of this year.
