NASA and Boeing have officially put the development of the X-66 Transonic Truss-Braced Wing (TTBW) demonstrator on hold, a move termed as "shelving" the project. This signifies a halt to the progress on the thin-wing aircraft, with the emphasis now shifting towards ground testing. The X-66A demonstrator was initially conceived to pioneer more eco-friendly aviation through its revolutionary wing design, characterized by an ultra-long wing and diagonal truss bracing, aiming to substantially enhance fuel efficiency. Nevertheless, the project has now transitioned into a phase dedicated solely to ground testing.
