Microsoft has issued a notice informing users that Teams clients that remain unupdated for over 90 days following the release of a new version will cease to function, a measure aimed at enhancing device security and compliance. Normally, Teams updates automatically without any user intervention. When a version nears its expiration date, the application proactively notifies users. According to Microsoft's policy:

  • Users will receive a reminder if the Teams app is not updated within 30 days.
  • After 90 days, a "block page" will be displayed, preventing further use of the outdated client.

To mitigate disruption, users have the option to manually update their clients or switch to the web version of Teams. The specific dates for the implementation of the "block page" on various platforms are as follows:

  • April 11, 2025, for Windows desktop clients.
  • May 6, 2025, for VDI environments.
  • May 15, 2025, for macOS clients.
