On November 3, LG Energy announced plans to expand its North American energy storage battery capacity to capitalize on the growing demand from AI data centers. Chief Financial Officer Chang Sil Lee said during the earnings call that the company's pouch-type energy storage system (ESS) capacity is expected to exceed 50 GWh by the end of this year and is projected to rise to more than 70 GWh next year. In addition, the company is preparing to launch lithium iron phosphate (LFP) 2170 cylindrical batteries, with mass production planned for the first half of 2027. It is also accelerating research and development of sodium-ion battery technology, with plans to begin sample production of energy storage systems at its Ochang plant before the end of this year and to deliver test products to North American customers in 2027.
