In the wake of France, frozen and refrigerated equipment at multiple supermarkets across Belgium, Sweden, Luxembourg, and Ireland has fallen victim to similar cyberattacks, disrupting chain supermarket stores in various locations. In some stores, the temperature settings of freezing equipment were maliciously tampered with, resulting in extensive damage to merchandise. The affected supermarkets in France all relied on refrigeration controllers from the Danish company Danfoss that are no longer supported. It remains unclear whether the most recently affected supermarkets use this type of controller.
