A research team from the University of Science and Technology of China, headed by Pan Jianwei and Zhang Qiang, in collaboration with Zheng Mingyang's team from the Jinan Quantum Technology Research Institute, has achieved a significant breakthrough in the realm of quantum interconnection. They have successfully established an efficient connection between ultraviolet-band ion-trap quantum memories and communication fibers. Specifically, they accomplished high-efficiency, low-noise quantum frequency conversion, transitioning from a wavelength of 393 nm to 1550 nm. This feat not only sets a new international benchmark but also furnishes essential technical backing for the long-distance interconnection of trapped-ion nodes within scalable quantum networks. The details of this achievement were published in Physical Review Letters on October 13.
