On September 14, news emerged that Boston Dynamics, the humanoid robotics subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, is unlikely to launch an initial public offering (IPO) next year. A senior executive from the parent company revealed that the IPO timeline could extend by several years, primarily because its flagship Atlas robot has not yet achieved large-scale deployment or profitability. Despite strong investor interest in Hyundai’s robotics division, which propelled its stock to record highs earlier this year, analysts argue that the absence of widespread humanoid robot adoption in industrial settings makes a near-term IPO improbable. Hyundai Motor had previously outlined plans to build a factory capable of producing 30,000 robots annually by 2028 and to begin deploying humanoid robots at its Georgia plant in the U.S. the same year, with a phased expansion across its global manufacturing network. However, some industry observers view these targets as overly optimistic.
