Researchers at Apple have achieved new advancements in protein design with the development of the SimpleDesign end-to-end model. This model breaks through the traditional multi-stage training framework, enabling the simultaneous generation of amino acid sequences and three-dimensional structures, continuing the technical path of the SimpleFold project. It can uniformly address both protein folding and inverse folding problems, enhancing generalization capabilities through extreme condition design and demonstrating outstanding performance across multiple benchmark tests, surpassing mainstream multimodal models in some metrics. However, the current results have not yet been validated through wet-lab experiments, and the actual performance of the generated proteins requires further investigation.
