Scientists from the University of Waterloo in Canada, inspired by natural structures, have redesigned a key component of redox flow batteries—the porous electrode. The new electrode allows the electrolyte to flow more smoothly and efficiently within the battery, facilitating thorough energy storage and release reactions. This design is expected to enable flow batteries to store large amounts of electricity generated from wind and solar power more conveniently and safely. The relevant paper was published in the latest issue of the Journal of Energy Storage.
