Recently, a collaborative effort between Professor Wang Chundong's team at Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Professor Shao Zongping's team from Curtin University has yielded a significant research paper. Titled "Deciphering the Origin of the Advanced Urea Oxidation Performance of Nickel-Based Catalysts", the paper was published in the esteemed domestic journal eScience. The research delves into a pivotal challenge in the realm of nickel-based catalysts: the propensity for active Ni-O species to undergo over-oxidation during the urea oxidation reaction (UOR), a phenomenon that diminishes reaction selectivity. To address this, the study introduces a novel d-p coupled interfacial dynamic charge buffering strategy. By implementing this innovative approach, the research team has not only enhanced the performance of nickel-based catalysts in UOR but also demonstrated their promising application prospects in the domains of urea fuel cells and the treatment of wastewater containing urea.
