Based on extensive reports from foreign media, on August 26, the London High Court decreed that Samsung must compensate Swatch with $11.6 million (approximately RMB 77.9822 million) in damages. The court determined that Samsung had inflicted "significant harm" on Swatch by featuring numerous digital watch faces on its smartwatch app store that closely resembled luxury watches. The judge pointed out that the bulk of the damages arose from the infringement caused by Samsung's display of Swatch's brand names in its app store, irrespective of whether consumers actually downloaded the content. Although these watch face apps were developed by third-party developers, Samsung was also deemed responsible for overseeing the app review process and leveraging these watch faces to market its own smartwatches.
