Recently, a significant number of users have reported encountering issues with the Windows 11 August 2026 update (KB5121003), particularly in the 24H2/25H2 versions. These problems manifest as graphical glitches, stuttering, crashes, and unexpected system restarts when playing games such as Arc Raiders, Marvel Rivals: Battle Souls, and Final Battle. Upon investigation, Microsoft has determined that the root cause stems from compatibility conflicts between drivers for specific RGB lighting devices (e.g., inpoutx64.sys) and the game or system kernel. These drivers may be invoked by hardware tools from brands like Razer. Following the update, the kernel handle verification mechanism has been tightened, leading to the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error. To mitigate the issue, Microsoft advises users to temporarily disable the driver by modifying the registry (navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesinpoutx64 and change the Start value to 4) or uninstall the update patch. Users are also reminded to back up their data before making any changes. Currently, Microsoft is collaborating with its partners to pinpoint the exact cause and has not yet rolled out a permanent solution.
