LG Energy Solution is set to supply lithium iron phosphate batteries, manufactured at its U.S. facility, for Google’s flagship Gangha Energy Center solar-plus-storage integrated project. The project is anticipated to commence operations in 2029, initially featuring an energy storage capacity of 2 gigawatt-hours, which will subsequently be scaled up to 2.9 gigawatt-hours. The photovoltaic modules for the project will be sourced from First Solar in the United States, while the energy storage equipment will be assembled domestically, with the majority of the battery cells being produced at U.S.-based factories.
In response to the sluggish electric vehicle market, LG Energy Solution is bolstering its energy storage battery production capacity in the United States. The company has already commenced energy storage cell production at two joint venture factories and intends to launch energy storage cell production at its wholly-owned facility in Michigan later this year.
