The US Department of Justice said on Wednesday that Chinese technology and e-commerce giant Alibaba and its US payment processor have agreed to pay $600 million to settle allegations. The allegations state that Alibaba failed to prevent merchants from selling and importing illegal drugs, chemicals, and counterfeit pharmaceutical equipment to the United States through its e-commerce platform, in violation of the US Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The settlement was reached through a 'non-prosecution agreement'.
