The South Korean antitrust regulator has accused Google of abusing its dominant position in the Android app market by providing financial support to game developers through the 'Game / Google Velocity Program' and requiring that the terms for listing their games on the Google Play Store be no less favorable than those offered to competitors, thereby reducing developers' willingness to distribute games on other app stores and hindering market competition. The agency will recommend corrective measures and impose a fine, which could reach up to approximately $546 million if the accusations are upheld. Google has eight weeks to submit a written defense and review the evidence, after which the Korea Fair Trade Commission will make a final ruling as soon as possible while ensuring Google's due process rights.
