At the Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) Pilot Institution Strategy Conference, Zhao Longlong, a fund manager with MSIM China, posited that, from an energy sector vantage point, the lithium-ion battery industry chain could emerge as a bellwether for gauging economic resurgence. He highlighted that segments such as upstream lithium carbonate, battery production, and certain material sectors, which exhibit favorable supply-demand dynamics, warrant particular focus. On the demand front, energy storage has burgeoned into a pivotal growth engine for lithium-ion battery consumption. This is underscored by positive trends, including the augmentation of battery capacity per electric vehicle and the ascendancy of electric heavy-duty trucks. Zhao Longlong underscored that should downstream demand and supply-demand dynamics undergo a reversal, the new energy sector might embark on a fresh cycle. He stressed the imperative of fully acknowledging the significance of upstream resource segments in this context.
