On June 2, reports surfaced that Blue Origin's "New Glenn" heavy-lift rocket suffered an explosion during a static fire test at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida the previous week. On June 1 (local time), NASA Administrator Isaacman announced that repairing the specialized launch pad for the rocket would be a lengthy process, potentially extending until 2028. According to analyses by US media, this incident could consequently lead to delays in US manned lunar landing missions, such as the "Artemis" program. As part of the "Artemis" lunar landing initiative, NASA has entered into several contracts with Blue Origin with the goal of returning American astronauts to the Moon. Furthermore, NASA had intended to assign Blue Origin the task of launching the unmanned "Blue Moon" lander aboard the "New Glenn" rocket later this year, marking the inaugural phase of the "Lunar Base" project.
