As reported by CCTV News, on April 28, Guangzhou Shipyard International, a subsidiary of CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering (Group) Company Limited, officially handed over the world's first LNG dual-fuel car carrier with a capacity of 10,000 vehicles to South Korea's HMM Company in Nansha, Guangzhou. This colossal vessel, stretching 230 meters in length and 40 meters in width, boasts 14 car decks and can accommodate up to 10,800 standard passenger vehicles, setting a new benchmark for global car carrier capacity.
Its adaptable deck layout is designed to accommodate a wide variety of vehicles, including electric cars, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks, catering to the diverse needs of the global automotive trade. The vessel features an LNG/fuel oil dual-fuel system, powered by a high-efficiency ME-GI main engine, enabling it to cruise at approximately 19 knots. Throughout its entire voyage, the vessel operates on a low-carbon mode, significantly reducing carbon emissions by about 25% compared to traditional fuel-powered ships. This aligns with the latest environmental standards established by the International Maritime Organization.
Moreover, the ship is outfitted with a photovoltaic energy auxiliary system, an intelligent ballast water management system, and a ship energy efficiency management system. These features allow for real-time monitoring and optimization of its navigation status, enhancing operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
During the construction phase, Guangzhou Shipyard International tackled several technical hurdles, including structural integrity, precision control, and the adaptation of new energy sources for ultra-large PCTCs (Pure Car and Truck Carriers). By leveraging digital intelligent construction techniques, the company achieved precise control throughout the entire construction process, reducing the construction period by approximately 15%. This accomplishment underscores China's proficiency in mastering the core construction technologies for 10,000-vehicle capacity car carriers.
