Recently, TeamViewer, a remote desktop software, has issued notifications to users holding permanent licenses, stating that the lifecycle of TeamViewer versions 13 and 14 will come to an end on October 31, 2026. Support for these two versions will be phased out gradually from that point onward, and connections established through these versions will be incrementally disabled until they are rendered entirely unusable. This action has ignited a wave of controversy, as TeamViewer has essentially redefined the scope of a permanent license, suggesting that 'permanent' solely pertains to the version in question. Users who acquired permanent licenses during the software's early stages will be the ones most impacted. Following the End of Life (EOL) phase, they may find themselves unable to upgrade to newer versions free of charge and will be required to pay extra fees to transition to a subscription-based plan.
