On April 12, XChat, a standalone messaging app developed under Elon Musk’s X platform, confirmed its official rollout on the Apple App Store for April 17. Designed as a privacy-centric alternative to WhatsApp and Signal, the app highlights end-to-end encryption, an ad-free experience, and tracker-free communication.
After nearly four years in development, XChat aims to capitalize on X platform’s 500 million monthly active users for initial traction. Dubbed the “Western WeChat,” it integrates AI-driven features while combining messaging, payments, and social functionalities. Key innovations include phone number-free registration, screenshot blocking, self-destructing messages, group chats, and video calls—positioning it as a multifunctional super-app.
