Christopher Hui Ching-yu, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, expressed, while deliberating on the refinement of preferential tax schemes for funds, family investment holding entities, and carried interest, that following consultations with industry stakeholders, various departments in Hong Kong are set to roll out a suite of enhancement measures. These initiatives encompass broadening the scope of what qualifies as a 'fund', diversifying the range of qualifying investments for both funds and family investment holding entities, easing the tax-exempt status for special purpose entities, and refining tax relief provisions for carried interest. In recent times, a significant number of VC/PE firms from the Mainland have established a presence in Hong Kong, establishing it as a sought-after hub for hard technology investments and cross-border capital maneuvers. Should these policy incentives come to fruition, fund entities headquartered in Hong Kong stand to gain tax advantages, likely injecting further vitality into the private investment landscape in Hong Kong.
