On March 31, Google unveiled a new functionality that enables users to directly modify their primary Gmail email address, all the while preserving their existing account data. To switch email addresses, users can simply navigate to their account settings, click on 'Personal Info,' followed by 'Email,' and then select 'Google Account email' to initiate the change. Once a new address is chosen, all emails and cloud drive files will be automatically retained. This feature is being implemented in phases for users across the globe, meaning some users may need to exercise patience and wait for their turn.

After the email address is changed, the old email will continue to function as a backup, guaranteeing that users won't miss any important correspondence. Furthermore, the system offers the flexibility for users to revert to their old email address if desired. However, it's important to note that after changing the primary email address, users are required to observe a twelve-month cooling-off period. During this time, they will not be able to apply for a new address again. This measure is likely in place to prevent abuse and ensure the smooth operation of the email system.
