On March 5, during the first "Ministers' Passage" session at the Fourth Session of the 14th National People's Congress, Minister of Science and Technology Yin Hejun highlighted the remarkable strides China has made in science and technology. These efforts have propelled the nation's scientific and technological prowess to unprecedented levels, with its innovation index now ranking 10th globally. Looking ahead to 2025, he revealed that China's total R&D investment across all sectors is projected to surpass RMB 3.92 trillion, marking an intensity of 2.8%. Notably, investment in basic research is set to approach RMB 280 billion, constituting 7.08% of the total—a historic milestone that exceeds 7% for the first time.
