Google has recently made an announcement regarding its initiation of tests for cutting-edge, quantum-resistant HTTPS certificates within the Chrome browser. This strategic move is designed to proactively bolster the security of online communications, preemptively addressing potential threats that quantum computing could pose to current encryption frameworks. At present, quantum computing technology has not yet reached a stage where it can breach the prevailing internet encryption protocols. Nevertheless, Google, along with other key stakeholders in the security sector, harbors concerns that the advent of large-scale, practical quantum computers could swiftly render existing HTTPS security cryptographic algorithms vulnerable.
