Elon Musk and Ryanair's CEO, Michael O'Leary, got into a heated exchange on social media regarding the expenses associated with equipping aircraft with Starlink WiFi. O'Leary pointed out that fitting Starlink gear would add extra weight and drag to the planes, consequently driving up fuel expenses. He also mentioned that passengers showed little inclination to foot the bill for such a service, which is why he declined to install it on Ryanair's fleet of over 600 planes. In response, Musk contended that O'Leary's claims were off base and even jokingly (or perhaps not so jokingly) threatened to buy out Ryanair and give O'Leary the boot. This clash has reignited the longstanding debate within the aviation sector about the actual demand for in-flight internet connectivity.
