Microsoft is set to officially end support for the Windows 10 operating system on October 14, 2025. This cessation includes the discontinuation of security updates and technical services. Based on Dell's evaluation, there are roughly one billion personal computers (PCs) globally that are still running on Windows 10. Among them, approximately 500 million PCs are unable to make the leap to Windows 11 because their hardware specifications fall short of the requirements.

In light of this situation, Microsoft has rolled out a one-year Extended Security Update (ESU) program. This program provides three distinct options for users to maintain their security protection. Firstly, they can activate OneDrive cloud synchronization. Secondly, they have the opportunity to redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points. Thirdly, they can opt for a one-time payment of $30 to purchase eligibility for the service.

Despite Microsoft's efforts, the impending retirement of Windows 10 has triggered a significant upswing in PC replacements across the globe. In the third quarter of 2025, PC shipments witnessed a year-on-year increase of over 8%. This trend has proven to be advantageous for manufacturers like Lenovo and Apple.
