Sources close to the situation indicate that, in the wake of escalating consolidation within the food delivery sector, Delivery Hero SE is now under significant pressure from a number of its key shareholders to undertake a comprehensive strategic review. Among these investors, the Hong Kong-based hedge fund Aspex Management stands out, as it is actively encouraging the company's management to explore the possibility of selling the entire entity or specific segments of its business.

Previously, Delivery Hero has made remarkable strides in turning around its previously unprofitable regions, culminating in the achievement of a positive S&P-adjusted EBITDA for the first time in 2024. This financial milestone is expected to be followed by substantial growth in both 2025 and 2026. In terms of performance metrics, the company's group gross merchandise volume (GMV) soared to €48.8 billion in 2024, marking an 8.3% year-on-year increase. Meanwhile, its total segment revenue surged to €12.8 billion, reflecting a robust 22% year-on-year growth.

In a strategic move to enhance its capital structure, Delivery Hero successfully raised €1.8 billion through the initial public offering (IPO) of its Middle Eastern brand, Talabat, on the Dubai Stock Exchange. Despite the mounting pressure from shareholders, Delivery Hero's future growth prospects remain promising, with expectations centered around deeper market penetration, heightened order frequency and value, expansion of subscription plans, and an uptick in advertising revenue.
