At the "iTAP SUMMIT 2025: Touch and Enjoy, Leading the Future" conference, a senior representative from China UnionPay announced that the company has strategically reserved the iTAP (Intelligent Touchless Approach Protocol) pathway as part of its ongoing research and development efforts for next-generation smart terminals. Moving forward, all newly launched terminals will feature built-in support for the iTAP protocol, while existing terminals will undergo updates and enhancements to incorporate this capability. Furthermore, UnionPay is actively working to facilitate the global integration of payment applications with the iTAP protocol on an international scale. Presently, UnionPay has expanded its card issuance and payment services to 183 countries around the world, with nearly 9.1 billion UnionPay cards in circulation.
