On November 14, 2025, the Berlin court handed down a decision, ordering Google to pay hefty sums in compensation and interest. Specifically, Google is required to pay the German price - comparison platform Idealo approximately €465 million in compensation along with €91 million in interest. Additionally, it must pay another price - comparison service provider, Producto, €89.7 million in compensation and €17.7 million in interest. This is due to Google's alleged abuse of its dominant market position in the search engine sector. The total amount of compensation in this case exceeds €570 million.
This ruling has its roots in the EU's 2017 finding. Back then, the EU determined that Google had misused its market dominance, leveraging it to gain an unfair competitive edge for its own price - comparison shopping service. As a result, Google was slapped with a €2.4 billion fine. A Google spokesperson has vehemently denied the Berlin court's ruling, firmly stating that the company intends to file an appeal.
