The German court has determined that Alphabet's Google is liable to pay a total compensation of €573 million (equivalent to roughly RMB 4.727 billion) to resolve two 'follow-on actions' for antitrust damages, which were brought forward by German price comparison websites. To be specific, Google is mandated to pay Idealo €374 million in compensation along with €91 million in interest. Additionally, it must pay Producto GmbH €89.7 million in compensation and €17.7 million in interest. This judgment was rendered on Thursday evening local time and subsequently announced on Friday morning. Google has not issued any response so far. These lawsuits are intertwined with the EU's 2017 antitrust ruling against Google. For several years, the claim process was stalled due to Google's appeals. It was only last year that the EU Court ruled Google had contravened antitrust regulations, paving the way for plaintiffs within the region to directly seek damages.
