Amid its ongoing legal clash with Tencent, Sony has submitted a comprehensive 35-page document, countering Tencent's motion to dismiss the case. In this filing, Sony dismissed Tencent's defense as "baseless" and accused the company of employing a "shell game" strategy to sidestep copyright infringement liability. The controversy centers around Tencent's latest game release, 'Wild Origins,' which Sony contends "plagiarizes" multiple elements from its acclaimed 'Horizon' series.

In September, Tencent moved to have the case dismissed, asserting that it is premature to determine infringement since 'Wild Origins' has yet to be officially launched. The company also postponed the game's release date and altered its promotional materials in response to the dispute. However, Sony has countered that the harm caused by the alleged infringement is both real and ongoing, emphasizing that the promotional content alone is sufficient to constitute an infringement of its rights.

Sony further highlighted that Tencent has disseminated information about the game through various subsidiaries, creating a facade that obscures the true controller of the project. Despite this, Sony insists that Tencent Holdings has been intimately involved in steering the project's direction. Additionally, Sony argues that the characters featured in 'Wild Origins' bear a striking resemblance to the protagonist of the 'Horizon' series, potentially causing confusion in the marketplace.

At present, Sony is urging the court to reject Tencent's motion to dismiss and to advance the case to the evidence discovery phase.
