Recently, Wang Xiaodong, a blogger who identifies himself as a long-time Huawei enthusiast, took to social media to voice his grievances. He reported that after upgrading his device from HarmonyOS 4.3 to HarmonyOS 5.1, he encountered compatibility issues with mainstream apps like WeChat and Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok). Certain features within these apps were rendered inoperable. Frustrated, he visited a Huawei after-sales store to downgrade his system back to the previous version. This process not only consumed a significant amount of his time but also resulted in the loss of some of his data.

An engineer from Huawei's consumer hotline explained that since HarmonyOS 5 is a fully self-developed operating system, no longer reliant on the Android framework, all apps require redesign and development to ensure compatibility. Currently, most software developers have managed to implement approximately 80% of their app's functionalities on HarmonyOS 5. However, some features are still undergoing development and adaptation processes. As a result, Huawei has temporarily advised specific user groups, such as video content creators, to hold off on upgrading to HarmonyOS 5.1 until further notice.
