On Wednesday, the American oil giant Chevron announced the signing of a preliminary agreement with Angola's National Agency for Oil, Gas, and Biofuels. This accord paves the way for Chevron to explore for oil in Angola's offshore block 33/24. The deal was formalized on the opening day of an energy conference held in Angola, but it is contingent upon regulatory approval before coming into force. Situated in the Lower Congo Basin, block 33/24 borders the resource-rich blocks 17 and 32.
