On September 2, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of the United States announced that The Walt Disney Company has agreed to pay $10 million to resolve allegations of illegally collecting personal data from children without parental consent. As part of the settlement, Disney is also required to implement a comprehensive plan to review and accurately label its children-oriented videos on YouTube. The FTC accused Disney of gathering personal information from children under the age of 13 through YouTube for targeted advertising purposes, a practice that violated federal regulations protecting children's privacy online.
