Effective September 1, China introduces a new mandatory national standard for electric bicycles, with the primary objective of bolstering the vehicles' safety performance. This comprehensive standard meticulously outlines requirements for battery-controller compatibility, maximum speed limitations, fire resistance, plastic component ratios, vehicle coding, the integration of Beidou positioning, and enterprise quality assurance systems. Notably, the maximum speed of electric bicycles is capped at 25 km/h, with automatic power cutoff exceeding this limit; the bike will not activate if the battery and controller are mismatched; and the percentage of plastic parts in the vehicle's total mass must not surpass 5.5%. Furthermore, the vehicles must be fitted with high-temperature resistant coding and communication modules to facilitate dynamic safety monitoring. Lastly, enterprises are mandated to establish a comprehensive quality assurance system to guarantee compliance with these standards.
