Boeing is in the process of seeking approval from the European Union for the acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems, the world's largest independent aerospace structure manufacturer. According to documents on the European Commission's official website, Boeing announced in July of last year its intention to repurchase the former subsidiary for a stock transaction valued at $4.7 billion. Concurrently, Airbus will assume control of Spirit's unprofitable European operations. The European Union's executive body is anticipated to render a decision by September 30. Earlier this month, the UK's competition regulator approved the deal, deeming it unnecessary to conduct an in-depth investigation into potential anti-competitive practices.
