Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has come out in defense of the trade agreement between the European Union and the United States, asserting that it fosters stability and prevents the deterioration of relations with a key ally. In an op-ed published in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, von der Leyen emphasized that a trade war between the EU and the US would solely benefit Russia. She noted that while the agreement is not flawless, it is robust and cautioned that retaliatory tariffs could spark costly trade conflicts with detrimental effects on workers, consumers, and industries alike.
