The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in collaboration with the National Health Commission, has jointly issued a call for proposals on innovative biotechnology applications in the realm of food processing. This initiative encompasses a broad scope, including food raw materials, additives, related products, as well as processing and manufacturing methodologies. The spotlight is on advanced technologies such as synthetic biology, fermentation engineering, and enzyme engineering. The proposed applications must align with the needs of a diversified food supply system, demonstrate significant industrial potential, and fulfill the domestic criteria for "three new foods" (new food resources, new food additives, and new food-related products), albeit not yet having secured official approval.
