On August 15, the Ministry of Commerce spokesperson announced that China has filed a lawsuit at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Canada's import restrictions on steel and other products. Canada has disregarded WTO regulations by imposing steel tariff quotas and discriminatory tariffs on products containing 'Chinese steel components'. This approach embodies unilateralism and trade protectionism, significantly undermining China's legitimate rights and interests while disrupting the stability of global steel and other industrial and supply chains. China strongly expresses its dissatisfaction and firm opposition to these measures, and urges Canada to promptly rectify its erroneous practices. This action is necessary to uphold the rules-based multilateral trading system and foster the continuous improvement of China-Canada economic and trade relations.
