The Open Alliance for Life Sciences has been officially launched in Hong Kong, a collaborative initiative spearheaded by 15 preeminent universities and scientific research institutions from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. The alliance has established its secretariat at Fudan University and a representative office at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Its primary goals encompass streamlining the transformation process of scientific research achievements and exploring novel mechanisms for achievement conversion and industrial incubation across Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao.
The alliance comprises several specialized committees, initially concentrating on pivotal areas such as international journal collaborations, the development of scientific research data platforms, the establishment of biological resource libraries, and the transformation of research achievements. Furthermore, the alliance is dedicated to fostering international cooperation, encompassing talent cultivation, collaborative innovation, resource sharing, and achievement transformation. Its vision is to construct a global life science innovation network and a talent development hub to tackle global challenges such as human health, food crises, and extreme weather.
Looking ahead, the alliance aims to extend its reach by inviting more top-tier universities and scientific research institutions from around the world to join its ranks. It will particularly champion the participation of institutions from developing countries and regions, fostering a more inclusive and collaborative global life science community.
