In the evening of the 7th, a fire broke out at the Egypt Telecom data center building located in downtown Cairo, the capital of Egypt. The blaze led to the hospitalization of 22 individuals due to smoke inhalation. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was sparked by an electrical short circuit. As a result, the incident caused widespread disruptions to mobile communication and internet services throughout Greater Cairo, with some digital banking services also being affected.
To mitigate further damage and prevent the situation from escalating, power to the affected building has been promptly disconnected. Relevant departments are currently engaged in restoring services and assessing the extent of the damage sustained.
