During the first day of the Ascension holiday, Google Maps encountered widespread malfunctions in Germany, erroneously suggesting the closure of numerous highways. This misinformation prompted drivers to divert onto smaller roads, subsequently resulting in traffic jams. The issue extended to parts of Belgium and the Netherlands as well. Fortunately, drivers relying on other navigation tools remained unaffected, as the highways in question were indeed open. Google is currently investigating the root cause of this error and is implementing measures to rectify it. In the meantime, the company is advising users to consult multiple sources of information when planning travel to avoid similar disruptions.
