According to the International Energy Agency, global data center power consumption is projected to double by 2030, with artificial intelligence (AI) emerging as the primary catalyst behind this surge. Notably, U.S. data centers will account for 45% of this global consumption, surpassing that of energy-intensive manufacturing industries. Despite the significant increase in data center emissions, their total contribution to global emissions is anticipated to remain below 1.5% by 2035. Additionally, power consumption for AI chip manufacturing is poised to skyrocket, experiencing a staggering 170-fold increase. Despite the energy-intensive nature of AI hardware production, its lifecycle energy consumption remains lower compared to its operational phase.
