Shanghai's commitment to financial openness continues to escalate. On March 19, 2025, four foreign-invested financial institutions, notably Exane BNP Paribas (China) Co., Ltd., and Shanghai International Reinsurance Registration and Trading Center Co., Ltd., jointly inaugurated their operations in Shanghai. This milestone underscores a significant advancement in the development of Shanghai as an international financial center and underscores the confidence of foreign investors in the Chinese market. Shanghai vows to leverage its comprehensive strengths to bolster the growth of financial institutions within the city and accelerate the establishment of an international reinsurance hub. Furthermore, panda bond underwriting and investment have emerged as pivotal areas for foreign investors, while the expansion of mechanisms such as QDII (Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor) and QDLP (Qualified Domestic Limited Partner) offers new avenues for foreign capital. Nonetheless, foreign investors still confront hurdles in domestic fundraising endeavors.
