During the performance presentation meeting on the evening of March 18, Chen Zhongyue, Chairman of China Unicom, announced that the company intends to capitalize on AI opportunities across five pivotal areas: AI infrastructure, datasets, large models, agents, and AI security. Regarding AI infrastructure, China Unicom will focus on three strategic initiatives: Firstly, upgrading its existing Internet Data Centers (IDC) to Advanced Intelligent Data Centers (AIDC), with a particular emphasis on establishing 10 national-level intelligent computing data centers. Secondly, the company aims to expand its cloud computing capacity, deploying super intelligent computing nodes in key regions such as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei cluster, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Thirdly, China Unicom plans to interconnect these computing resources through a new eight-vertical and eight-horizontal backbone network, forming an ultra-large-scale intelligent computing cluster.
