November 2 News: According to U.S. media reports, voters in dozens of counties and cities across the United States will have the opportunity to vote on policies aimed at restricting data center development. From Nevada to Georgia, multiple local governments are allowing residents to decide whether to tax AI infrastructure, impose regulations, or even outright ban the construction of data centers. The move could affect hundreds of billions of dollars in investment and spell trouble for major cloud computing companies like Meta and data center developers such as Applied Digital. Data analysis shows that in the U.S. midterm elections on November 3, more than 40 data center-related proposals will go before voters. As opposition to new data center construction grows increasingly loud across the country, these proposals underscore that AI has become a major issue in this midterm election cycle. A September poll by Quinnipiac University showed that 72% of voters oppose the construction of new data centers in their communities, up from 65% in a similar survey conducted in March.
