In a podcast interview on Friday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman pointed out that with DRAM memory chip supply tightening, memory should be deployed in a centralized way in data centers to boost utilization. He argued that stuffing every PC with large amounts of scarce DRAM that sits idle 95% of the time is a serious waste of resources; in an environment where the global supply chain is extremely constrained, memory resources should be maximized and concentrated in cloud data centers to achieve higher utilization.
